What a way to start a weekend …

The EPL has an awesome Week 2 slate as well…

The minute the Red Sox look like toast, impressive wins in Houston! Should’ve been a sweep…

Look-a-likes: our Brock Hines and Bob Costas.

In a ‘Wink of an Eye’ … the Mets 2 walk offs in three days in Queens!

Iowa/Iowa State will be a high-scoring affair in 2 weeks. Meaning: the winner will have atleast 20.

Week 2 Picks

€€€ TYLER LaVIGNE of FIRST TOUCH€€€€

Note: This weekly blog is Tyler’s opinion and picks of the European Premier League and is not encouraging gambling.

This blog does not solicit sports or any wagering related entities.

Manchester United (Draw no bet) -110

⁃ United created a plethora of chances against Fulham although they only won 1-0, I expect them to get a result here and will be happy with a push if this ends in a draw. United have a stronger squad and hoping they can carry their momentum forward and sneak away with a 1-0 or 2-1 win
West Ham Crystal Palace Draw +260

⁃ I expect this to be a very open game that can go either way. Some of West Hams new signings should get minutes in this game which should help slow down Palace. West Ham have a better team in my opinion but playing Palace away can be difficult, I like a draw in this spot.
Fulham ML -125

⁃ Fulham played very well on their opener regardless of losing the game 1-0. I expect them to bounce back and get their first win of the season against a newly promoted Leicester City team.
Tottenham -1.5 +115

⁃ Tottenham will not be happy with blowing a 1-0 lead and about a billion chances in game week 1. I’m expecting a big bounce back and a convincing win here.
Nottingham Forrest PK -105

⁃ Southampton lost 1-0 after playing up a man for 75% of the game. I’ll take Forrest in this spot to win with the draw being a push.
Arsenal ML -120

⁃ Favorites on the road against a top 4 team last season who improved? Very weird line & Villa ruined Arsenals title hopes last year which lead to Arsenal finishing 2nd, I expect Arsenal to come back for revenge and win a close one here.
Chelsea vs Wolves under 3 -115

⁃ Chelsea have signed more players than I can count and Wolves lost two of their best players over the past two seasons. Chelsea lack chemistry in the final third but are a much better team. I’ll take under 3 goals in this
Newcastle ML +120

⁃ Newcastle have a much better team and Bournemouth lost their best player two weeks ago after Solanke left for Tottenham. I’ll take Newcastle here all day even though it is a bit of an odd line.

Meet the Mets! It’s been a rocky road for the “ 2nd team” in America’s 1st City since, well, 2015. Even then, it was a great season only those 4 games to 1 to the KC Royals.

But there is a vibe in Flushing Queens; the Mets are coming around
and it’s indisputable the result of ‘new’ owner Steve Cohen.

Cohen, to his credit, is a baseball fan first – forget the other stuff – all owners are wealthy or they would own a team to begin with.

Cohen sits with his cohorts, chats with neighboring fans and likes chocolate ice cream during the game.

The Mets have a strong core: Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and David Peterson to name just a few. The farm system is slowly coming back and the key will be staying the course. Cohen says they will.

Cohen last night sat among a mediocre crowd: “we need to do better at the gate,” he said during the 7th inning stretch.

The Mets blew a 3-1 lead and survived a top of the ninth inning scare.

Cohen turned to his two buddies, “we win this now!”

Francisco Alvarez… a dynamic young talent, proceeded to belt a towering, walk-off home run deep into the night.

Mets 4 Orioles 3.

Steve Cohen acted like any other fan.

Venu Sports – the joint sports-streaming venture between ESPN, Fox and Warner Bros. has hit a snag just as they were about to launch in advance of the NFL season.

Fubo TV argues in Federal Court of an anti-trust scenario leaving them / others outside of this monopoly. A judge agrees in issuing an injunction, but don’t expect that to hold up very long. If we’ve learned anything in these situations, the lobby power of the aforementioned Big 3 is next to impossible to stop.

At $42.99 per month the die-hard sports fan will find this hard to resist.
Good luck trying to cancel all the other platforms … right?

“First Touch” our new soccer show on Sports Byline – Saturday night 7p-8p Eastern is drawing very nice reviews!
Tyler LaVigne and Niko Bifsas bring as great a program you will find on network radio chronicling the European  Premier League and the others.

Send us your favorite sports bar/ pub/ place to watch EPL in your town/city.

So far, the Sportsman’s Club Chicago, the Royal Mile Des Moines & The Soccer Republic in New York City are the most often mentioned.

Let’s hear from youth soccer fans!

Brock Hines up on the Big Show today!
Always a listener favorite; lots to discuss with “Hinzy!”

Ah, horrible loss last night Red Sox!
I mean …. Awful!
Off to Baltimore where I believe the season will tilt – up, hopefully.

I always hated going to the dentist until I got in with Dr. Bob Margeas. Des Moines and Detroit and a premier cosmetic craft as well.

Eagles 23 Pats 17 tonight …

Matt Judon was a white flag move. BB is glad he didn’t get that job. They never win in the ATL. Even with 25 point leads in the Super Bowl.

Elin Hilderbrand is an awesome read.
Anything! Ok, I’ll turn in my man card!
She’s an Iowa Writer’s alum who is penning gems from Nantucket.

She’s retiring like Charles Barkley is done on TV?! Not!

Another former NE Patriot joins the show today. We will “kick it around” starting a 5p central/ 6 east today…
Tune in to find out …

Will it take a bi-coastal World Series – Dodgers/Yankees to get anyone excited?
I’m pulling for anything Baltimore given what Brandon Hyde is getting done in the Inner Harbor. Yet, their late summer swoon is making them look dicey.

Can Carson Beck truly be as good as advertised? The Georgia QB has the best O-line in football – maybe NFL good- to fire from behind.

Our DJ Shields – an admitted “homer” thinks Texas runs the table … he and Giovanna hit the show late this week. They comprise our “Dallas Duo.”

Billy Napier has Florida facing a brutal schedule – look at the last five games finishing up with Florida State. Somewhere Steve Spurrier is smiling …

I’m taking Caitlin Clark over Angel Reese and her rough & tumble teammates on August 30th in Chicago.

I actually enjoy watching the Chicago White Sox. Like slowing down to view a neighboring car wreck I suppose.

Chip Kelly looks poised to crank up the Ohio State offense. Imagine he and Ryan Day – two New Hampshire guys- ushering in another National Title for the Buckeyes? Beating Michigan won’t likely be a problem; it’s the Georgia’s, Oregon’s & the Texas’ of the world …

The Chicago Bears are the “Now” team in the NFL this season. The supporting cast of rookie sensation ( ok, potential
sensation ) is outstanding.
Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Rome Odunze along with TE Cole Kmet loom large for Da’ Bears.

The Bears don’t see a NFC North foe until mid-November in the mother of all scheduling quirks.

11-7 is the number I see.

The EPL kicks off this weekend in all its glory. Host Tyler LaVigne previews all week long on Sports Byline …

Happy Birthday Charley Rachelle Tirrell! 13 years have flown by and you are the sweetest daughter a Dad could have!

August 12th 2024

Recapping the Paris 2024 Summer Games takes center stage this weekend on Sports Byline…
7p-10p Eastern Saturday night …

“First Touch” Soccer show with Tyler LaVigne & Nike Bifsas has one half of the team in Athens, Greece.

Football Talk rolls into high gear with
DJ Shields…new show coming and we think you will love it!

The Red Sox might just be breathing down the necks of the Baltimore Orioles as the Birds continue their slide …

Saturday night September 7th we’ll be live in Ann Arbor after Michigan-Texas tilt…

The U.S. Open figures to be epic once more. Coco Gauff needs to put Paris in the rear view mirror and here’s saying she does in a BIG way.

LeBron showed what determination, Refuse to Lose toughness is all about Thursday versus Serbia. Spare me Bronny talk, JJ and other rubbish; James spelled it BRAWNY: grind til you win or die!

How bout’ Gabby Thomas? Lost in the Biles, Ladecky groundswell, her 200 (m) performance in a word: sensational!

Folks in Western Massachusetts especially giddy today; Thomas is from Northampton, Mass.; went to the prestigious Williston/Northampton School and graduated from Harvard with a degree in neurobiology.

Her family has great connections at UMass/Amherst thru her father; she has a twin brother Andrew and the Thomas family is beloved throughout the Bay State.

Just an amazing young lady and family!

Watching the Romanian gymnast being taken down by a post defacto scoring adjustment was sad to watch. Ana Barbosu —- no athlete at ANY level — should never be subjected to such humiliation.

So let’s see? The score change was the result of a recognition of the U.S. gymnast’s “degree of difficulty?” Why do the judges get a “mulligan” on their scoring acumen? Pay attention to the routines and know every facet thereof!

This is a disgrace! US gymnast Jordan Chiles received a 0.1 upward boost knocking Barbosu off the bronze medal spot on the podium. The U.S. coaching staff initiated the appeal. The rules allow for it. Change the rules.

Romania’s Prime Minister is boycotting the Closing Ceremonies— can’t blame him.

If it’s the Olympics there’s going to be both breathing moments of accomplishments and unnecessary despair to young athletes who already are challenged mentally by intense media coverage.

Ana Barbosu was subjected to cruelty & abuse. Her country will honor her as a medal winner. Beautiful move. But they can’t erase the video of a humiliating snub on a global stage.
Pray that some good can emerge from this or, if nothing else, the stupidity and laziness of the judging panel gets its due.

Watching Freddie Freeman come up to the plate after a 10 day absence to attend to his ailing son was heartwarming. The Dodger superstar returned to LA from a road trip upon word his son was diagnosed with Guillen-Barre’s syndrome— a serious neurological affliction.

Freeman was showered with a standing ovation, rival Philadelphia Phillies players doffed caps and touched their hearts and FF wept openly. Gulp.

Brittany Griner, meantime, rebuffs the U.S. National Anthem at the Olympics which is sick and mind-boggling.
Griner served 9 months in a Russian jail possessing drug paraphernalia while playing in the country two years ago.

President Biden facilitated an inmate swap to free Griner giving up a felonious arms dealer in exchange for
her immediate freedom.

She expresses her gratitude by turning her back on our anthem? On an Olympic stage with millions watching?

And Caitlin Clark doesn’t make our Olympic team?
